As an RF Hardware Engineer on our phased-array ground-station team, you will drive end-to-end hardware design from concept through prototype testing and production handoff. You’ll collaborate closely with Antenna, Systems, Mechanical, and Software teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable RF solutions that meet rigorous performance and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Capture schematics and lay out multi-layer PCBs in Altium Designer for X‑Band phased-array modules
- Design, simulate, and optimize RF front-end circuits (LNAs, mixers, filters) for low-noise, high-linearity performance
- Perform circuit simulations using LTspice, ADS, or equivalent tool
- Liaise with PCB manufacturers and EMS partners on stack-ups, DRC constraints, and DFM considerations
- Partner with Antenna, Systems, Mechanical, and Software engineers to define and execute prototype test plans
- Test and characterize prototypes using VNAs, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
- Analyze S‑parameters, noise figure, intermodulation, and system-level metrics
- Maintain version control (Git) of hardware files and document design choices in Confluence
- Participate in schematic, layout, and prototype design reviews
- Ensure designs meet relevant regulatory standards (EMI/EMC, safety, security)
- Drive DFM/DFT best practices and cost optimization for scale-up
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (RF focus)
- 5+ years of hands-on RF hardware design experience, ideally with phased-array or satellite applications
- Expert in Altium Designer, schematic capture, and PCB layout
- Proficiency with circuit simulators (LTspice, ADS, Microwave Office)
- Strong understanding of noise figure, matching networks, linearity, and device non-idealities
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex hardware in a start-up or scale-up environment
- Eligible for Australian security clearance
Desirable Skills & Attributes:
- Experience with EM simulation tools (HFSS, CST)
- Hands-on RF lab expertise: VNAs, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers
- Familiarity with high-volume PCB manufacturing and EMS partnerships
- Prior leadership of small technical teams or mentoring junior engineers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with executive-level presentation experience
